She passed peacefully at the Chemainus Health Care Centre; siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were by her side during her last few days. Predeceased by her husband Vic of 38 years, her sister Isabel, brothers Allan (Joanne), Bill, George (Aileen) and Freddy.  Betty will join her two sons Bob and Brian who passed away in their earlier years. Survived by her sister Pat (Ray), son Don (Luanne), daughter Marleen (Paul) and, her grandchildren Brad (Denise), Debbie (John), Brent (Helen) and Angela (Paul). And many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren all of whom live nearby, and brought great joy to her in her later years. <br>Betty was born in Swift Current Saskatchewan, and moved to North Vancouver to take a hair dressing course. She found herself moving to Duncan where she met Vic Palmer, married and had children. Betty was a devoted member of both the IODE and the Kinette Club in Lake Cowichan where Vic and Betty moved to raise their children. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to whoever was blessed to meet her. <br>A special thank you to all the wonderful nurses and staff  at Chemainus Health Care Centre for providing love and support. She is survived by: daughter Debra (Brian) Britton, son Trevor (Swedini) Halliday, daughter Tracey (Gary Morlock) Halliday, grandson Matthew (Leanna) Britton, granddaughter Shayla (Barry) Vandermey, great-grandsons Cameron, Gavin, and Keaton Vandermey, great-granddaughters Danika and Kaelin Britton and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. <br>Shirley was born in Fort Langley, B.C. on August 29, 1930. It was there that she met and married Herb and they moved to Lake Cowichan in 1955. They raised their family there and were very active in their community.  Shirley was particularly involved with the United Church at that time. Shirley and Herb gained many friends with their involvement in social activities and community projects. Shirley’s family was most important to her and she cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, known to them as “Great”. In her last years, she especially enjoyed the comfort of her home, caring for her flowers, and getting out for weekly errands and tea with friends. <br>The family wishes to express very special thanks to all the many friends and neighbours who helped and supported Shirley over the last few years after Herb’s passing. We are extremely grateful for your kindness and support. A Memorial Service and Tea was held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Lake Cowichan United Church, 10 N. Bonnie was born in Duncan, B.C. and raised in Youbou B.C. She was one of those rare people whom people were drawn to. She was fun-loving, loyal and thoroughly devoted to her family. Her home was the gathering place for family and friends and all were welcomed with open arms. Throughout her illness she showed a positive attitude and quiet strength that inspired us all. She had an amazing capacity for love and forgiveness. <br>Bonnie was predeceased by her father Ken Ross and her brother Gordon. She leaves behind her loving husband Ken, beloved children Shawn (Tracey), Corey (Leah) and Katrina. She also leaves behind her adored grandsons, Bailey, Jorden, Kalan and Zander.  She also leaves her mother Louise Ross, brothers Darrell (Shannon), Don(Sherene) and Dennis (Trish), numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Her passing leaves a huge hole in our lives. The family would like to send out a special thank you to Katrina Nicholson and Debbie Beldessi for taking such good care of her in her final weeks. In 1934, with her parents Hildur and Lars Grip, they moved to Caycuse Camp. It wasn’t long before Lucille had a sister Louise (John) and brother Bill (Joy). The family then moved to Youbou, BC. <br>Lucille went on to get her teaching degree and returned to Youbou where she taught until she retired in 1994. <br>In 1951, Lucille married her first husband Harold Whittingham and had three children Bob (Deb), Lisa (Vernard) and Jean-Ann (Ron). Tragically, she was widowed in 1964. In 1968, Lucille married Howard Smith and had their son Paul. Together they raised all four children on Willow Street in Youbou where the couple resided until suddenly and unexpectedly on December 8, 2009 she was taken from us. <br>Lucille took great joy in her Grandchildren Joel, Carrie, Rob, Alia, Stephen, Michael, Jordan, Danielle and Neil and Great Grandchildren Alex, Justin, William and Madyson. <br>Lucille influenced countless lives in the Cowichan Valley with her tireless endeavors of artistic creativity and community spirit. Lucille leaves behind a very large void in our family and the community. <br>A celebration of her life will be held Saturday December 19, 2009 at 1:00 pm in the Youbou Community Hall. Born in Bresaylor, Saskatchewan, Ed spent his younger years on the family farm. In 1940 he joined the R.C.A.F. where he spent the next five years. After his discharge in 1945 he began work in the Fraser Mill in Sapperton, BC. In 1949 he moved his family to the Island where he worked for many years at B.C.F.P. in Youbou. He built several houses in Lake Cowichan including our present home where he enjoyed working in his wood working shop, and in his garden, especially growing his tomato plants. His family was his pride and joy. Surviving her are Tina (her cat), son Ronald; daughter Judi (Ron); sister Martha; brother Jim; daughter-in-law Hilda; grandchildren Lisa (Travis), Rhonda; great grandchildren Brad, Brandon, Kim (Rob), Shai-lyn, Ava and Griffin; great-great grandchildren Aasha and Scottie; numerous step-grandchildren, nieces nephews and cousins. <br>Her smiling eyes and warm friendly embrace will be sadly missed by all.
