Born in Carruthers, Saskatchewan on November 22, 1922. <br>Predeceased by his wife  Patricia in 2005, and     brothers; Bob and Bill. Survived by his sons; Ray (Barb), and Robert  (Michelle), daughter; Evelyn (Don), grandchildren; James (Robyn), Dylan, Alyson, and Mellisa.  Ray was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for over twenty years before retiring to Ladysmith, BC.  A loving and caring father,grandfather, and friend. Her family supported her during her illness and was by her side at her final moment. <br>Predeceased by her parents Dennis and Fiona McCarthy, Mona is survived by her loving husband of 36 years Dick and their daughters Angela (Shane) and Monica (Chad), her sisters Colleen Menzyk, Nora Bergerman (Roy) Sherri Przada (Bill), many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends and her devoted and faithful dogs Sharky and Kali who never left her side. <br>Born in Campbell River, B.C. June 11, 1951 Mona moved to Nanaimo at a young age. He leaves behind ‘the love of his life’ Betty Lou,  of 55 years; daughters: Linda, Cheri (Jim), Valerie (Eric) and Hillary; as well as grandchildren: Danielle, Drew, Hannah, Holly, Melissa and Tyler and great grandchild Isabella. Rob loved his family and delighted in having his girls so close especially during this battle. <br>Rob was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, moved to California in 1944, attended Occidental College and USC before serving in the Korean War with the US Army Rangers. It was in California that he met Betty, raised his all-girl family and started Automotive Equipment Services and happily retired early in 1984. Rob always enjoyed a vast array of interests and hobbies including flying, boating, hockey, model railroading, photography, woodworking, computers, golf, reading and electronics of any sort. Eventually in 1990, Rob and Betty relocated to Nanaimo where he found ‘his little piece of heaven on earth. <br>Special thanks to Beverly Snawder, his sister in-law who diligently and lovingly cared for and supported Rob and Betty during this past year. Also Rob’s best buddy, Tom and wife Clara Eymundson, for their love and special friendship. Thank you to Rob’s wonderful Home Care nurses, who attended to his medical needs while becoming his friends and the loving and supportive staff at the Palliative Care Unit.  <br>A Memorial celebrating his life will be held Feb. 6th at 1:30 pm at First Baptist Church on Waddington Rd. Also survived by her loving brother, Jim Whyte (Dorothy) in Dumbarton, Scotland, and several brothers and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews. <br>Born in Auchterderran, Fife, Scotland on June 29, 1925 to William and Helen Whyte, fourth of their six children. After the war, she married Canadian solider, Emile Veillette in April, 1945, migrating as a war bride, she arrived in 1946 to the small village of Wellington, BC. There they raised all their girls and became the fabric of the community. She joined the Mount Benson School PTA before her children were old enough to attend. She was present at its closing, too. <br>With Cathie’s zest for life she had many interests, but found her true passion in Guiding. Wherever she went, she made friends, many of whom became lifelong. For 62 years she was involved in Girl Guides. She started the 1st Wellington Brownie Pack at the Wellington Community Hall in 1956 and was Brown Owl until 1989. Two of her initiatives were the annual Brownie Christmas Pageant and the Sleigh-pulling at Country Club Mall. Brown Owl, Trainer, Quartermaster and mentor were titles she loved. Even though her health was failing, she continued to carry on in true Guiding spirit. A founding member of the twenty-year old Last Bastion Trefoil Guild, she loved creating games and activities for their annual luncheon and was recently awarded the BC Appreciation Pin, to add to her numerous Guiding awards, such as Honourary Life Member. <br>In her younger years she was involved in the United Church Evening Circle. She was a “Firebell” in a 10-in bowling league, too. In her later years, she joined the Wellington LeisureTimers. She quickly learned all she could about carpet bowling. She because Secretary-Treasurer and incorporated many traditions there. In the past few years she became President and did an excellent job. A Memorial Service will be held at the Wellington Hall on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:30 pm.
