Helen lived a full life, working to support her family until her late twenties. At that time she took her Junior Matriculation and then graduated from Normal School with her teacher’s certificate. Helen had read about Vanderhoof as a teenager and was excited to be offered a teaching position in Braeside 60 years ago. She was Vanderhoof’s first kindergarten teacher, and also taught other grades in several schools. Other interests were teaching Sunday School and youth at the Gospel Chapel, the Fall Fair Board, <br>4-H, Speech Arts, flower and vegetable gardening. Helen married Dave in 1952, who predeceased her in 2001. She is survived by her four children, Gerry (Lesley) Thiessen, Kathy (Dean) Tompkins, Wilf Thiessen and Doug Thiessen, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 10 brothers and sisters, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Campbell, the nurses, and support staff at St. John Hospital, as well as the residents and staff at Riverside Place. Memorial services were held at the Gospel Chapel on January 10, 2010. Cliff, born December 2, 1929 was  <br>just eight days short of his 80th birthday. <br>A celebration of Cliff’s life was held at the Gospel Chapel on November 30th, followed by a tea reception. <br>He will be missed and fondly remembered by Helen, his devoted wife of 58 years and his children Lois (Irv) Brown, Elizabeth (Ken) Rensby, Kathy (Gary) Hawrys, Jan (Bob) Giesbrecht, Jim (Kathy) Niessen and Audrey (Royce) Giesbrecht, his 13 grandchildren, Ken, Hannah, Tricia, Natasha, Robert, Mike, Dwaine, Russ, Clint, Samantha, Lawrence, Krystle and Kyle and his 23 great grandchildren, his sister Verna Hammond and his brother Lawrence. Myrtle was predeceased by her husband Steve Billick, her father Herman Benjamin Lubie, her mother Winfred Lubie, and her sister Irene. Myrtle was survived by her only remaining sister Dora, other family and friends and her beloved cats Ziggy and Phoebe. Myrtle had many hobbies during her lifetime. She loved birds, raising poodles, doing crafts, sewing, knitting, going fishing, and much more. She always had one or two dogs or cats around her. In her later years she loved reading, gardening and learning computer skills. She was presently enrolled in a computer course at North Island College. A memorial service took place at the Courtenay Fellowship Baptist Church, 2963 Lake Trail Road on Monday Nov 30th. As she requested, Myrtle’s wish to be cremated and laid to rest alongside her father and husband in Prince George will be honored in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to our local SPCA in memory of Myrtle. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son Sterling (Lisa) and daughters, Victoria (Stacey) Naziel and Sandra (Arnold) Peters, grandchildren, Keith Ketlo (Marie), Leslie (Valerie) Ketlo, Frank Jr. Simone, Marcy, Trevor, Gregory, Aaron, Arnold Jr., Tara, Pete, Aiyana and Austyn, and great grandchildren, Zenaida, Katrina, Blaine, Jommel and Lucien, sisters Emma Baker and Martina (Edwin) Stehr, and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.  Bernie was predeceased by her husband Antoine (Tony), son Antoine Jr., daughters, Patsy, Karen, Geraldine and Jacqueline, parents, Isaac and Louise George, brothers Charlie and Fred, brother-in-law Willy Ray Baker and Mitch Ogen -  who was like a brother to her.  She was a respected mother, grandmother, great grandmother and community elder. She was a traditional elder and was skilled at catching and preparing salmon, tanning and sewing hides, making Indian medicine, doing intricate beadwork, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and working with birch bark.  Her birch bark baskets have found their way into many homes locally and throughout the world.  Bernie was a gentle, quiet soul, full of strength and wisdom.  She always had a smile and a kind word.  She will be sadly missed, and forever remembered. Betty leaves to mourn her passing; son, Ray Hennessy (June) in Penticton and daughter, Marie Cameron in London, ON; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; two brothers, Bill and Charlie both of Viking, AB.  She was predeceased by her baby son, Jackie; son, Robert; daughter, Ann Gerow; two grandsons, James and Donny Cameron; first husband, James Hennessy and her late husband, Alfred Bye.  Betty was raised in a homestead environment.  She married Jim Hennessy in 1933 and eventually they moved to British Columbia following the lumber industry along the CN rail line between Prince George and Edmonton; finally settling in Burns Lake, BC. She found employment in retail sales and through night school became involved in accounting, within the lumber industry.  Following the loss of her home by fire she moved to Vanderhoof, BC where she managed the local credit union for eleven years.  Betty retired to Enderby, BC in 1974 where she worked effectively to create a senior’s hall, followed by wheels on meals.  She was the last living founding member of the proponents.  Betty was a founding member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nadina Chapter, in Burns Lake, BC in 1959 and served as Worthy Matron in 1962.  She was also a member of the Royal Purple in Salmon Arm, BC.  By her request, no funeral service will be held. Interment will take place in Viking, Alberta.
