Born in the small Saskatchewan community of Paynton, George grew up without electricity or running water. He lived to wholeheartedly embrace the computer age. He served for ten years with the RCAF as a meteorological observer; in civilian life he worked as a power engineer, in the Prince Rupert pulp mill, later at various DND establishments around Victoria. George enjoyed new challenges, whether it was serving as an RCMP auxiliary constable, learning how to keep the wood stove stocked after he moved to Sooke, or studying Mandarin. In 1981, at the age of 46, he fulfilled a lifelong ambition when he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Victoria. George was a truly kind, compassionate man, with his family, and in volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, NEED Crisis Line, Sooke Hospice and as a volunteer Internet instructor. Quiet, never one to seek the limelight, he nevertheless found great pleasure in his performances with Sooke’s Stage West Players. He will be missed, on and off stage. Survived by wife, Sheila; daughters, Karen and Alison; grandchildren, Joy, Rachel, Logan, Elizabeth, Lucas and Zöe; great grandson, Connor; sister, Louisa; nieces and nephews. Private natural interment and celebration of his life.
