He leaves behind a loving family. His wife of 63 years, Dorene, his children Wendy Hales (Ken) Susan Pliszka (John), Brenda Hay, and Donald Jones (Stephanie),  his grandchildren Becky (Kevin), Gillian, Lindsay, Nichole, Meghan (Jed), David, Kyle (Kirsten) and three great grandchildren; his brother Gary Jones (Audrey) and numerous nieces and nephews.  Len was predeceased by his twin brother Stan and sisters- in-law Marion and Carol.  <br> <br>Other than the years Len served in the North Atlantic on a Corvette Len spent his entire life in Sooke.  Upon his return he met and married the love of his life Dorene.  Together they raised their family and were active members of their community.  As an extremely involved community member Len generously dedicated his time to the welfare of the people of Sooke. Besides being a huge influence within the Sooke Logging industry, Len spent his time volunteering for the Sooke Community Association, the School Board and the Volunteer Fire Department serving as Fire Chief for several terms. His love of gardening was evident in winning the ongoing tomato competitions with his friends.  Len was one of the original “Sooke Old Timers” and proud of it. <br> <br>While he was proud to be a part of the Sooke Community, Len was most proud of his family. He taught that Love, Family, Respect, Honesty and Trust were values to live by and he did this every day.  He always said  “hold your head up high, never leave with regrets, and stand by the ones you love.”  Len left with no regrets.  He was loved and cherished by a family who were all proud of him and feel privileged to have been part of his life.   <br> <br>Anyone who knew Len would say that he was a true gentleman.  <br> <br>Service will be held Thursday Jan 28, 2010 at the Sands Chapel, 317 Goldstream Avenue, Colwood. Ken left us suddenly, but not without a good fight, while vacationing in Washington State, U.S. Predeceased by his parents from Lancashire, England, William and Edith Nuttall, most recently by his loving sister Dorothy Hillier, brother-in-law Bill Hillier, mother of his chidren and partner of 25 years Gerry Simpson Nuttall.Astrid Nuttall. Survived by his loving wife Heather Nuttall, his children Kevin (Sian), Sandra and David (Laura) and his grandchildren, whom he was so proud of Drew, Meghan, Scott, Emily and Sarah. Ken was in the Ready-Mix business all his life starting out as a truck driver, then sales and management. Ken was a long-time member of HUDAC and made many life-long friends in the construction field in Victoria. Dad became a Cub Leader for his sons Kevin and David and enjoyed many more years as ‘Akela’ with the 5th Garry Oak Scouts. Dad was blessed with many years with his friends (including good friends Wayne and Joan Peter’s), family camping, horseback riding and boy did he love to dance! Ken was also an excellent swimmer and spent many early morning hours at his local recreation centres keeping physically fit. In recent years, Ken thoroughly enjoyed his luncheons with Vic West School Alumni, his time spent with his friends at the Sooke Legion and proudly watching his grandchildren play sports. He is survived by his mother Isabelle Peters, sister Patricia Kennedy, nieces Vanessa and Janelle, and nephews Fernando and Nicklaus. A memorial service will be held in his hometown of London, Ontario in the spring. <br>Vic’s life revolved around music, particularly the music of Jimi Hendrix. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Ellen; his four children, Elden (Carol), Nadine (David), Vincent, and Gena; and his nine grandchildren, Deana, Riley, Rachelle, Cassidy, Troy, Garnet, Mitchell, Ava, and Andrea. Dennis is also survived by his three sisters; Jeannie (Bob) Banner, Patricia (Fred) Switzer, and Cindy (Danny) Heggelund. Dennis was predeceased by his brother Alan “Bud” Smith (Clare). <br>Dennis grew up in Sooke, and worked for over 35 years in the local lumber industry working all jobs ranging from turning logs by hand up a ramp by peavey, to working the green-chain, and then finally becoming Superintendent of Forestry Operations. His early training ground helped him succeed in logger sports competitions where for many years he held reigning title as the World Champion Peavey Log Roller. Throughout the years Dennis enjoyed fishing, hunting, and coaching softball teams.  Dennis also spent thousands of hours (47 years) as a volunteer firefighter for the community.  <br>In later years Dennis was inspired to design and build a small marina located in the Sooke Harbour. While operating “Jock’s Dock” he enjoyed sitting by the ocean, and he loved passing each day by listening to fishermen tell their big fish stories and watching the eagles soar overhead. All who knew Dennis will remember his sense of humour, his love of family, and his amazing salmon BBQs.  <br>We extend our sincere thanks to all the wonderful health care staff who attended Dennis in the Renal Unit at the Royal Jubilee Hospital.
