Born in 1928, Dad was the first of his family born in a hospital.
A few months short of his 82nd birthday Bill passed away having had, in his own words “a long run”.
Liam outlived not only his parents, Michael and Brigid (nee Kinlough) also his sister Bridie, brothers Jack, Mick, Paddy and Brendan. Though not the tallest, he did tell tall tales as expected from a good Irishman! Trained as a draughtsman he worked briefly in that field before joining Dunnes for many years and then fate and a wee bit of an incident on a motorbike resulted in Bill coming to Canada with his old friend Eddie “for a year” as one of the first volunteer Frontier Lay Apostles.
In Prince George, Bill met another volunteer from Dublin and it was not long before Eileen White chased him down and they enjoyed 51 long years together. Government employment, working with those seeking jobs as well as those new to the country, was briefly interrupted with a trip to Eire accompanied by his wife Eileen and four children to Eire - the first visit in 15 years - but not their last.”
Retirement saw Mom and Dad travel around the world, sometimes to visit the children they had encouraged to travel, another to do volunteer work with the UN Refugee program - appropriate as they were immigrants themselves. Bill and Eileen then moved from the cold North to Chemainus in 1995 and enjoyed Vancouver Island life and its people, making new friends and assisting those in need through local activities such as Meals On Wheels.
Lack of training on piano and voice did not deter Bill from trying his hand at both, joining in or solo with “Girls Were Made to Love and Kiss” taking a close second to “You Are My Heart’s Delight”. Bill was always ready with a story to entertain or a bite and a drink to fill you up. Friends old and new were always welcome to visit or stay at a moment’s notice.
A visit to Ireland and Europe in 2009 was postponed after Bill broke his leg. Progress with “the new leg” was going well until Dad entered the hospital in May as his years finally caught up with him.
Bill is remembered by his wife Eileen, children Phyl, Pat, Joan and Chris, grandchildren Bailey, Zak, Megan, Sara, Ashten and Hanna, great grandchild Rowan, and many friends and relatives both here and overseas including the old country - Hughes, Bellew, McGreevy, Stanley, etc., and in particular Lena, his friend from childhood in the old neighbourhood.
Bill and the family also say a big thank you to the friendly and expert medical staff they came to know during their time in Duncan, Chemainus, Victoria and Prince George.
Service was held in Chemainus on May 25th.
Service to be held June 2, 7pm at Domano Chapel, 6500 Southridge (Domano Renewal Centre), Prince George.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.

KING, Marletta Monday, 22 Mar 2010

Prince George Free Press Prince George, BC

 KING, Marletta
(Marley) Elaine
(nee Waldron)
Passed away peacefully
March 22, 2010 at the age of
64 years with her family by
her side. Jack was born on June 22, 1936 in the small town of Fusiler, Saskatchewan. Jack was born a first generation Canadian, having family heritage from Germany, Russia and Argentina. Jack moved to Prince George, British Columbia in the late 1950’s and worked in the logging camps and lumber mills in the summers. He then met and married Diane Eklhome and they had their only daughter, Terry. Jack divorced a few years later and lived the rest of his days as a single man. Jack was a quiet, kind and warm hearted man that was always willing to help out others, fixing and repairing most anything he could. He also enjoyed to travel and always had many fond memories to share of his adventures. Jack loved the outdoors and finding new things, he would often be found walking around town exploring in early morning most every day. Jack also had a sweet tooth, especially for his favorite food peanut butter, and it was a very sad day when his doctor told him to cut back on his tasty treat. Jack is survived by his daughter, Terry his sister, Doris Lauer a sister-in-law, Mary Dunbar, nieces, nephews and their families, Diana and Mike Lyons, Darlene and Greg Wallace, Charlene Donaghy and Troy Bakos, Trevor and Dalene Persson, Keith and Linda Persson, as well as numerous other members of the Lauer and Sieben family. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all those lives Jack touched. Jack was predeceased by his brothers, Tommy Lauer, William Dunbar and a brother lost at birth. A memorial service for Jack will be held at EVENTIDE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4820 - 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. She served
as President of the Catholic
Women’s League from 1988 to
1990; and also had terms as
President of the Business and
Professional Women’s Club
and Women @ Work.
She founded Special Events
Creators, which continues
under new owner Shelley
Raper, to produce major events
in Prince George. There was always
the possibility of becoming
caught up in the vortex of
some JoAnne-inspired stunt or
activity! She had an ability to
become almost helpless with
laughter and take everyone
around with her into that state!
She coped with illness for
almost six years. As a person
with strong faith, she prepared
for the end every step of the
way. She accepted some of the
treatments offered and there
was success. At one point,
she was declared cancer-free.
That happy result could be
attributed to the excellent care
she had at PGRH; the superb
support system from her
husband, family and friends;
and her attitude, based on an
unshaken belief that she could
get better.
Reaching the point where
treatment was no longer
realistic, JoAnne prepared
carefully for her return to God
by expanding her spiritual
journey and her sacred Prayer
Room to include Buddhist
chant, visits to Buddhist
temples in Malaysia, a blessing
from a Rimpoche and travelling
to Sedona, Arizona for a Native
blessing. She continued her
life-long commitment to praying
the Rosary and received Last
Rites from the Church.
At JoAnne’s specifi c request,
there will be no funeral or
memorial service. While fl oral
tributes are lovely, she received
those in such abundance
during her hospital stays
her room looked like a fl orist
shop! Instead, JoAnne would
prefer that donations be made
in her memory to the Prince
George Hospice Society which
has supported her so well in
these last years.
