Gerry passed away peacefully in the presence of God at Nicola Valley Health Centre Hospital on
January 16, 2010 at the age of 67.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he moved to
Merritt at an early age with his parents, Oscar and
Winnifred Karlson. Gerry is survived by his loving wife Linda, and his four children, Gordon, Ron, Geraldine and Cindy, his 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He loved them all very dearly.
A celebration of his life will be held at the
Evangelical Free Church, 2090 Voght St. in
Merritt, at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January, 23, 2010.
Reception to follow.
Gerry had a gift for helping people in need. He was a founding member of Merritt’s Soup Kitchen and faithfully served there until his health did not permit him to do so.
In memory of Gerry and in support of those in need,
donations can be made to the Soup Kitchen.

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Jim Fleet of Lower Nicola, at Royal Inland Hospital on January 8, 2010.
Jim was born in Halifax, N.S. in 1936. He moved to the Merritt area in 1990. He was a noted musician and loved playing and singing and will be remembered for sounding much like his idol “George Jones”.
Jim is survived by his wife Trudi, daughters Cathi, Karen, Leanne, Sandra(Rod) and Rhea(Ron) and sons Hal and Russell, 13 grandchildren, 1 great-grandaughter along with numerous nieces and nephews many good friends and his 3 cats which he adored. He is also survived by one sister Elizabeth Kersey of Halifax, N.S.
Jim was pre-deceased by his parents and one sister. Cremation took place at Merritt Funeral Chapel.
A celebration of his life will take place at a date to be announced later.
He will always be remembered and sadly missed!

Dorothy Smith passed away peacefully at the Lillooet Hospital, December 15, 2009 at the age of 84. Dorothy was born in Big Bar on Feb. 22,1925.
Her children all visited her at different hours during her passing. She is survived by:
her daughters Monica Mosimann, Barb (Bill) Heard, Janet (Warren) Stirling/Smith, her sons Edward (Darlene) Stirling, Bill Stirling, James (Jackie) Stirling,
and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
She is predeceased by two wonderful husbands, Barney Stirling and Richard Smith, her parents Gussy and Maggie Haller, six brothers and one sister.
The delight of her life was her many children and grandchildren. No service by request.
We are going to miss you mom!
You touched the hearts of many.

We are sad to announce the passing of long time resident Douglas Frank Ehl Nov 28, 2009. Born in Doris, Alberta April 8, 1934 he moved to BC in 1956. He was employed at Tolko for more than 25 years.
Douglas Is survived by his wife Leona. They enjoyed 47 years together. They raised seven children who all attended school in Merritt. He had 19 grand children.
After his retirement he devoted as much time as his health would allow in volunteer work, that of telling others the Bibles hope for the future. His favorite Bible passage was John 5:28,29, “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.”
Douglas is survived by his wife Leona and his children: Cindy(Ed), Palma (Bruce), Divona, Cory (Tammy), Dorreen (Peter), Rayanne (Tim), and Rodney. His Grandchildren: Derek (Cheryl); Samantha, Austyn, Dustin; Devan, Jessica, Ashley, Tayler; Caleb, Kennan, Kyron; Barret, Rylan; Tristan, Kelly, Evan, Aryanne; Thomas, and James. Other surviving relatives: His brothers Charlie, Bob, Jimmy, sister Grace, and many nephews and nieces.
Predeceased by his brother Tommy, sister Annie, and two sons that died shortly after their birth: Ivan and Kelly.
He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Service is at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Saturday at 2 pm.

Rose Eggeson went to join her husband on November 16, 2009 in time for their 70th Wedding Anniversary.
She was born in Pontovil, Sask on Dec. 8, 1920 to Jacob and Louisa Pohl. Raised as a farm girl, she met the love of her life, Thomas Eggeson. They married
Nov. 17, 1939 in Maidstone, Sask. after a 3 week courtship. In 1956 they moved to Penticton, BC, later relocating to Merritt in 1961. They raised four children, Ron (Carmelle) of Sparwood, BC, Glenn (Yvonne) of Duncan, BC, Ellie (Allan) Woods of Merritt and their 25th wedding anniversary present Kathy (Ken) Shumard of Kamloops, BC.
Her grandchildren Lee, Tracy, Cory, Amy, Tom, Drew, Michelle, Meredith, Nancy, Darren, twenty-one
great-grandchildren, three sisters, Ruth, Georgina, Loretta and special friends, Marlien Sheridan and Jim Tingle are left with incredible memories.
Rose had a special knack for making all guests feel at home. No matter when someone popped by or stopped in, there were treats in the cookie jar. And at mealtimes, there was always enough for everyone.
She enjoyed many activities such as crocheting,
knitting and bingo at the Senior Citizen’s Hall. Most of all she enjoyed beating anyone at a good game of bridge.
From Merritt, Rose and Tom took special holiday
vacations (camping) with family and friends. As a result Tom became an avid fisherman and Rose would pick all the wild berries she could get her hands on.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Tom, her three brothers and one sister.
At Rose’s request there will be a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Merritt & District Hospice Society.
Special Thanks to Dr. Bester, Sharon, Bonnie, Nurses at Nicola Valley Health Care Unit and Gillis House for their care and understanding. Thank you Pam, Pat, Sherrie and Heather of the Merritt Palliative Care Program for all your support.

It is with great sadness that the family announces Doug’s sudden passing while living in New South Wales, Australia. He is survived by his wife, Trina; son Ian (mother Lucille); daughter Amelia; brothers John
(Jacquie) and Robert (Charlotte); nieces Allison
(Andrew), Emily (Jeremy), and Clare (Jody); and nephew Cameron (Sophie). He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Helen. Doug was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, but spent his early years in Vancouver, B.C. where he attended elementary and junior high schools before moving to Penticton with his parents. It is there that he truly enjoyed his passion for skiing and became a ski instructor. He returned to Vancouver in 1969 as a journeyman meatcutter for Safeway. He lived many of his last years in Merritt, B.C. where he worked briefly for Overwaitea and Gulf Oil before becoming a respected supervisor for Emcon Services. He loved the outdoor life of fishing and boating and spent many happy summers with family and friends at his favourite place, Sheridan Lake. He had a warm, easy-going disposition and enjoyed a wide and varied circle of friends. Doug touched the lives of many people during his life and will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his family and many friends.

It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our sister and aunt, Audrey E.V. Sam on Monday, November 9, 2009. Audrey was born in Merritt on December 23, 1953. Audrey is predeceased by her parents Dennis and Louisa Sam, her brothers, Victor Sam, and Morgan Sam, and sister, Dorothy Lafferty (nee Sam). She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Geoffrey (Gloria) Sam, Judith Joe, Esther (David) Hulme, and Clyde Sam, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Dr. McLeod and all the nurses and staff at Coquihalla-Gillis House who made Audrey’s last years comfortable and peaceful. The staff gave her special care and attention. Special thanks also to Rusty Brewer and the Ska-lu-la staff for the years Audrey worked at the center. Audrey taught us how to love and be loved.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Audrey to Coquihalla-Gillis House would be appreciated. Audrey was an angel to all of us. A private family graveside service was held at the Lower Nicola Indian Band cemetery. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Schoening Funeral Services.
