She had fond memories of working in the orchards. She graduated from Kelowna Secondary School in 1942, and then went to Pittman\'s Business College in Vancouver. She then returned to Kelowna to work at Simpson\'s Sawmill and occasionally the Kelowna Packing House. In 1951, she married Roland \"Rolly\" Radomske in Kelowna and they moved to Kamloops in 1963. She then returned to work as a legal secretary and retired at the age of 70 years. Some of Eveline\'s interests included history, poetry, music and visiting with family and friends. She had a love of horticulture and nature. Viv wanted to write a book. She got as far as the title, To Love and To Laugh. The rest never made it to print because she was too busy loving and laughing to put those stories onto paper. She was a woman who experienced great tragedies in her life, but was able to put her own feelings aside and work to make life better for the other people affected.
Her first husband, Clarence \"Dunc\" Duncan was stricken with polio when he and Vivian had one child and expecting a second. Dunc spent nine months in an iron lung and emerged confined to a wheelchair, paralyzed in both legs and left arm. Vivian convinced him he could still support his family with his teaching degree and his spirit. For the next 16 years, she dressed him and drove him to Kamloops High School. He never missed a day. They were a great team. They also went on to have two more children. Dunc died when his oldest child was 20 and his youngest was 6.
Vivian worked doing the financial books for Irving Medical Clinic. She loved people and was a natural saleswoman so later started selling Fuller Brush. With her leadership and enthusiasm, she quickly became the area manager.
In 1973, Vivian met the second love of her life, Henry Davison. The pair married and were gloriously happy. But it was shortlived. Henry went in for heart surgery in 1978 and did not survive.
Deeply grief stricken, Viv struggled to maintain her mental health. A bi-polar condition that first appeared two years after Dunc\'s death caused some difficult days. But once again, she overcame the darkness and went on to find happiness in the lives of her children and grandchildren of whom she was exceptionally proud.
Vivian had many talents. She was a superb seamstress. She was a wonderful cook and meal presentation was as important as taste. Her creative expression moved into cake decorating with her work soon much in demand. She had a sharp business mind and was a great conversationalist. She loved the arts and involved her children in dance and piano. Most of all, Viv had a gift for loving. Being a mother came naturally, perhaps coming from her youth when she helped her mother raise her younger siblings.
Vivian was born in Mawer, Sask. on Oct. 21, 1923 to Monte and Mildred Compton. She had 7 brothers and 3 sisters. Lloyd (predeceased), Ruth, Ellis, Cliff (predeceased) Wayne, Ken, Gayle, Pat, Doug & Dale. After war broke out, she joined the RCAF where she met Dunc. Mom and Dad chose to live in Kamloops after seeing the rivers and mountains, building a home on Dominion Street in 1957. She lived there until shortly before her death.
The last few years saw a number of care aides help Mom remain in her home and then at Kamloops Seniors Village. Thanks to you all for your care and compassion.
Vivian is survived by her children Rod (Sharon - predeceased) Shelley (Jim) Kelly, Tracey (Rob) Miller, Jeffrey (Val) grandchildren Seamus, Neah, Nuriah Kelly, Shea Duncan, Jessica Miller, Brad & Nicole Duncan. Great grandchildren Drake, Saskia, Xavier, Svin & Ulysses Kelly. Special friends Susan Duncan and Pam Bragg. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
A memorial service for Vivian will take place at Kamloops Senior Village, 1220 Hugh Allan Drive, Wednesday Sept. 1st, 2010 1:00 p.m. in the downstairs multi-purpose room.
Donations in her name to the Kamloops Food Bank or Salvation Army.

Fraser, Donald John Monday, 23 Aug 2010

 			Kamloops This Week Kamloops, BC

 			Donald John Fraser
March 9, 1928 – August 23, 2010

Donald John Fraser, a Hard Rock Miner, has departed for his “Cabin in the Sky”, to do a little prospecting in the clouds, accompanied in spirit by his many four-legged buddies.
Born in Winnipeg to Elizabeth and Alistair Fraser, he leaves to mourn his passing, Gloria, his loving wife of 47 years, his son Terry, grandchildren Kevin and Lisa, three great-grandchildren, and his faithful companion Sassy. Shaw on Friday, August 13, 2010 at the age of 96 years. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Jim) Barratt; her son Wm. Hunter Sharkey (Susan) Shaw of Kamloops, as well as two granddaughters Tina (Jack) Schmitt from Scott City, Kansas; Joy Shaw and great-grandson Cole from Edmonton, Alberta. She is also survived by her sisters Phylis Sinclair of Ketchikan, Alaska; Jean Wilcox of Kamloops; Betty Stewart of Vancouver and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Hunter Shaw and her brothers Joe and Jimmy Povoas.
Mom was born in Olds, Alberta on November 19, 1913 but spent her life in Kamloops. She married Hunter in 1941 and together they spent a great deal of time at the Shaw Springs Resort near Spences Bridge where Mom helped uncle Bill Shaw in the kitchen baking awesome pies and cakes for travelers.
It wasn’t only her baking that people admired. Mom’s hands were always busy kitting or doing cross stitch. Her handwork is highly cherished by all her family. One of Mom’s favourite pastimes was bingo and she was known to play a dozen cards at once. She was also very proud of her Scottish heritage.
Mom loved her family and supported us in whatever activities we were interested in. It didn’t matter what the occasion, whether it was music recitals, school events or rodeos, Mom was there to cheer whether we won or lost. She taught us to be kind to others and showed us that strength comes from within. We’ll miss you dearly.
Should friends desire, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated in her memory.
Condolences may be expressed at
www.schoenings.com
Cremation arrangements entrusted to
Schoening Funeral Service.

Laird, Ryan Thursday, 12 Aug 2010

 			Kamloops This Week Kamloops, BC

 			RYAN LAIRD
Dec. 14, 1982 –
Aug. 12, 2010
It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of
Ryan Laird.
Survived by wife Jessica Steeves, son Ethan John Owen Laird, father Bob, mother Irene, brother Jorden and numerous family and friends.

Forever in our hearts Always

After service on Saturday, August 21, there will be a potluck dinner for all friends at Jessica\'s house to celebrate the life of Ryan Laird.
 		    ";
