Died Monday, August 16th, 2010 at Penticton Hospital. Kae was born on October 19, 1921 on Lulu Island to Matthew and Emma Fawkes. As a 6 week old baby she moved to Coquitlam where she spent the next 60 years of her life. She was the first child christened in 1924 in the newly founded Central Church on King Albert Avenue in Coquitlam. Her early education included Central School on Austin Road, she also attended school in <br>New Westminster. In May of 1939, she married Maurice Bell in Victoria. Shortly after Kae and Maurice returned to Coquitlam where they raised 4 children: Donald Bell (Eleanor) Abbotsford, Maureen Crawford (Ron) Summerland, June Malchoff, Sechelt, and Colleen (Robert) Gallagher Penticton. In 1949 Mom and Dad opened Bell’s B.A. Service Station on Ridgeway in Coquitlam. Dad and Mom were always known as the people to go to if you needed money or help. They had great faith in the people of Coquitlam who in later years took the time to visit them where ever they lived. When they retired 28 years later they moved to Summerland in the Okanagan where Mom was a member of the Sumac Ridge Golf Course. Their winter months were spent in Desert Hot Springs at Hidden Springs Mobile Home Park. Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling and spent many happy hours in their Winnebago. Fiercely independent, she drove by herself to Desert Hot Springs after Dad died in 1991, including April of this year. Kae’s later years in Desert Hot Springs were spent with friends, especially Oliver Koonz. With Oliver she found her second love and together they shared Manhattan‘s overlooking the 9th green as they watched the sunset on the mountains. They delighted in playing crib and danced until dawn, with Kae wearing her favourite red shoes. Kae was known to her family and friends as a feisty and determined woman. She had a fire in her soul and a twinkle in her eye. When asked how she was feeling her reply was always: “Miserable, bad tempered and cranky!” She was witty, had a wonderful sense of humour, and was always willing to share her thoughts and opinions. We loved her spirit! During her last 6 months in Summerland, Mom enjoyed all the beauties of the lake while sitting on her front porch. Best of all were the times grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit and her house was always crowded with laughter. To her friends and neighbours and Penticton Hospital Staff, the family extends their heartfelt thanks for your kindness and understanding. Kae was adored by her Grandchildren: Dawn Koeppel, Wesley Crawford, Cathy McCluskey, Robin Bell (Michelle), Christopher Bell (Kathleen), Ronnie Crawford (Kim), Mosie Nicholson (Don). Great Grandchildren: Jennifer and Jonathan Koeppel, Jessica and James McCluskey, Dawson Bell, Levi Bell, Amelia and Isla Nicholson. Kae is missed by her much loved nephews from Sechelt: George, Michael and Brian Fawkes. A celebration of life will take place on the Thanksgiving weekend in Summerland.
